Santa Fe Ranked #1 for Cleanest Air

The World Health Organization (WHO) ranked Sante Fe, New Mexico, as having the cleanest air in the world in its first ever survey on air pollution.  The survey was based on the levels of airborne particles smaller than 10 micrometers (also known as PM10s) measured in almost 1,100 cities worldwide.

Albuquerque August Homes up 26.42%

The Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS® (GAAR) announced August home sales have increased 26.42 percent from August, 2010.  There was also a 7 percent increase in homes sales from July, 2011.

Total sales volume also increased 13 percent, with $127.7 million in sales in August.

New Mexico Unemployment Rate Lower than National Average

New unemployment rates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor show New Mexico’s jobless rates dropping 2 percent in the last year to 6.6 percent.  While still higher than pre-recession rates, New Mexico is faring better than the national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent for August, 2011.

Sandia National Labs Receives $4 Million Energy Grant

Sandia National Laboratories has been awarded a $4.1 million energy grant as part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) package to speed innovation, deployment and lower costs for offshore wind energy systems.

ABQ Teen Wins National Civil Air Patrol Contest

An Albuquerque teen has won a national contest sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol to come up with a slogan to keep kids off drugs.

There’s not many of us who can say we knew what we wanted to be when we were 13, but Spencer Graham says he’s known all along he wanted to be a fighter pilot.

He’s created a new slogan that he hopes will encourage thousands of kids to follow their dreams and stay off drugs.
