Bandelier National Monument Reopens to Visitors

The National Park Service reopened Bandelier National Monument after a three-month closure following New Mexico’s largest wildfire in the state’s recorded history.  Park officials are allowing bus shuttle service to bring visitors into the park for guided hikes.

The monument’s popular visitor center has been exposed to flooding in the aftermath of the fire, and park officials have worked to save rare artifacts and artwork throughout the historic site.

Bandelier usually hosts about 238,000 visitors each year to the site.  Park officials expect attendance to be down for the next two years as they may have to limit visitor activity throughout the canyon to assure safety.
